SNL star Cecily Strong reveals her struggles dealing with grief during lockdown after losing her cousin to cancer before the virus pandemic began

Cecily Strong has spoken about the grief she experienced at losing her cousin earlier this year, in a piece penned by the Saturday Night Live star for Vulture.com.

In the article, the 36-year-old comedienne opened up about the death of her cousin Owen Strong and how that impacted on her relationship after her new boyfriend -whom she met at a Christmas party in 2019- contracted coronavirus.

‘I’m upset with him for not understanding why I constantly need to know he’s okay,’ wrote Cecily in the piece.

Cecily’s cousin Owen died from an aggressive brain cancer called glioblastoma in January at the age of 30.

‘Grieving for Owen was like nothing I’d ever experienced,’ she wrote.

‘I’m in the middle of my two-week quarantine in my tiny apartment in New York. I’ve cried every day.’

Then, when her new love Jack fell ill with COVID-19, Strong revealed ‘I’m upset with myself for needing to constantly know he’s okay. I’m upset with friends talking about missing their f***ing birthdays. What if Jack dies? What if I die? Owen just d—. I can’t say it or write it. I’m so low and I’m so afraid.’

Strong shared a photo of herself and Owen at a New York Knicks game in 2018, along with her SNL castmate Michael Che.

‘It’s the last night I will see Owen,’ she revealed.

The Ghostbusters actress and Illinois native has been an SNL cast member since 2012.

She is best known for her impressions of Melania Trump, Senator Dianne Feinstein and a perpetually inebriated Fox News personality Jeanine Pirro.
